The NMEA Integra e-Nav Interface provides backup GPS position data to the Integra ELT (emergency locator transmitter) during emergency situations when, for whatever reason, the ELT is unable to receive signals with its own built-in GPS receiver. In the event of ELT GPS receiver failure, the NMEA Integra e-Nav (GPS RS232 standard) provides GPS data to the ELT directly from the aircraft's panel-mounted GPS so that it can then be transmitted to the COSPAS SARSAT satellite network normally. The e-Nav is connected to the data output from the aircraft's panel-mounted GPS via the NMEA0183 interface. During normal operations it continually records and updates the location data it receives from the panel-mounted GPS. Should an emergency occur, the Integra ELT will first try to obtain position data from its internal GPS; if this fails, it is programmed to then retrieve data from the e-Nav which will have recorded the aircraft's last known position before the Master Switch was turned off in preparation for a forced landing.
